Boyd Unit Release Outcomes

William R. Boyd Unit is operated by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. It is not an annex of the Sheriff’s jail. A person may leave Boyd for another TDCJ unit, a regional release site, a hospital, a detainer transfer, parole, mandatory supervision, or sentence discharge. Parole is conditional release after a Board decision. Mandatory supervision is a separate statutory release route. Discharge means the sentence has ended, subject to the exact record.

TDCJ can change a scheduled date or location after audit and release planning. A move between prisons is not release. Likewise, transport to a regional release site may precede the actual event. Confirm a Boyd Unit Release

Begin with TDCJ Online Inmate Search. It is oriented toward current inmates, so an absent result is not enough for a former prisoner. The separate Texas IVSS offender search may show Offender Status, Facility, Expected Release Date, Release Date, and TDCJ-number history. Name spellings and number history matter.

1. Search by TDCJ or SID number when known; otherwise use the exact name and available birth information.
2. Read status, facility, and date labels together. Do not treat an expected date as completed release.
3. Check IVSS for a released or supervised state offender and prior TDCJ numbers.
4. If parole applies, verify the Board result and supervision status through TDCJ channels.
5. Request the state record when public screens conflict or omit the former prisoner.

TDCJ also accepts offender-information requests by email and telephone. Its public channels can provide a TDCJ number, location, offense and county or court, prior incarceration history, and Projected Release Date. Public email replies do not supply photographs or Social Security numbers.

Boyd Unit Records Contact

The official Boyd Unit directory supplies the institution’s identity and contact. Unit staff can route current operational questions, but a formal offender or release record belongs with TDCJ’s information and public-record channels.

A focused request can identify the person by name and TDCJ number and seek intake and release dates, status, release type, releasing unit or site, and transfer history when disclosable. Boyd Unit Prison Profile

Boyd is a male state prison four miles west of Fairfield on Highway 84 and Spur 113. The official directory lists G1, G2, G4, and safekeeping custody categories. These are prison classifications, not release types. The unit opened in August 1992 and has a stated capacity of 1,372.

Capacity does not show current population, annual releases, or whether one person is eligible to leave. Boyd’s identity also should not be merged with the nearby Freestone County Jail, which is run by the Sheriff and uses local release records.

Boyd Parole and Discharge

Parole eligibility is not the same as approval or release. The Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles reviews a file and can impose a favorable decision tied to a program. An FI decision is therefore not proof that a prisoner left Boyd. After a favorable vote, TDCJ still completes audit, planning, detainer checks, and release processing.

If supervision continues, the assigned district office follows the approved residence, not necessarily the prison’s county. Freestone County maps geographically to the Athens District Parole Office, but another office may control an individual case.

Boyd Pre-Release Programs

Boyd’s official program list includes CHANGES/Pre-Release and Reentry Planning. That is a distinctive local part of TDCJ’s preparation work. Participation may help someone plan for identification, services, residence, or other needs before release, but it does not establish that the Board approved parole or that TDCJ fixed a date.

Program enrollment and release authority are separate facts. Confirm the release through IVSS, TDCJ records, and parole information. For processing questions after a favorable decision, TDCJ identifies its Reentry and Integration Division and state release-status contacts. Avoid treating a class, transfer, or release-site move as the final event.

Freestone County contains both Boyd’s 1,372-capacity prison and the 44-bed Sheriff’s jail. The contrast makes agency identification the most important first step: TDCJ answers Boyd questions, while the Sheriff answers local booking questions.

After a Boyd Unit Detainer

A detainer is a notice or request from another authority concerning custody. If one remains at the end of a Texas sentence or before a planned supervised release, Boyd departure may lead to federal, immigration, county, or other custody. The TDCJ status and release record should be read with the receiving agency’s record.

For a documented federal transfer, use the federal custody route. For an immigration transfer, use the immigration custody route. Neither path should be searched merely because a person vanished from a result screen. First identify the recorded destination.

Scheduled release sites and dates can change. Call Boyd or TDCJ for current operational details and do not promise pickup at the unit gate. A confirmed date in a current official record is more reliable than an old screenshot, estimate, or third-party listing.
