Freestone Parole and Probation Compared
Parole is conditional release from a Texas prison sentence. The Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles makes parole and mandatory-supervision decisions. The TDCJ Parole Division investigates release plans and supervises people after release. Probation, formally called community supervision, begins with a judge's order. The Limestone/Freestone Community Supervision and Corrections Department carries out that order.
Both can impose reporting duties and other terms, but the legal source differs. A Sheriff release entry may show that someone left Freestone County Jail. It does not prove parole or probation. Likewise, a supervision record does not give the precise hour that the jail completed release.

Verify Freestone Post-Release Supervision
Start with the system that created the status. Use TDCJ for a person released from state custody, including William R. Boyd Unit. Use the Freestone court record for probation. Names repeat, so compare a SID or TDCJ number, full birth date when permitted, cause number, offense, and court before treating a result as the correct person.
- Search the official TDCJ Online Inmate Search and inspect Offender Information and Parole Review Information.
- If the person has not received a Board decision, call BPP status at 844-512-0461. After a favorable release vote, call Parole Division release status at 512-406-5202.
- For a person already released, use TDCJ IVSS to review status, expected release, actual release, and available number history.
- For probation, obtain the signed judgment or community-supervision order from the Freestone County Clerk for a county misdemeanor or the District Clerk for a felony case.
- Confirm the assigned officer and office directly. County of conviction does not always determine where a person reports.
The statewide sex-offender registry can show supervision language for a person who has a Chapter 62 registration duty. It is narrow and cannot serve as a list of everyone on parole or probation. Texas IVSS-Counties may send county booking, release, court, or transfer events, but those events also do not prove a supervision assignment.

An approved residence and release plan can place supervision elsewhere. Court probation follows a separate local department shared by Limestone and Freestone counties.

The two offices should not be treated as branches of one agency. CSCD staff work for the local judicial district. They are not TDCJ Parole Division staff. Ask which office holds the current file before sending personal documents.
Which Freestone Supervision Office Applies?
The split between Athens DPO and the Limestone/Freestone CSCD is a distinctive local source of confusion. A Boyd Unit release may move to a parole district based on an approved plan, even when the conviction arose in Freestone County. A local judge's probation order remains a court matter and routes through the joint CSCD.
Read the signed source record. A TDCJ detail showing parole or mandatory supervision points toward Parole Division. A county or district judgment stating community supervision points toward CSCD. If the record is unclear, contact the office and provide a stable identifier. Do not infer the status from where the person lives or from the fact that the person is no longer incarcerated.
Freestone Supervision Violations and Warrants
A reported violation does not equal a new conviction. Parole proceedings can result in revocation, continued supervision, an intermediate sanction, or another authorized outcome. A person released on parole may later be held on a supervision warrant. That custody event does not erase the prior release, but it changes the current status.
An absconder entry must come from a current official source. TDCJ operates a parole absconder tip line at 866-680-6667 and a separate Sex Offender Absconder Information Search. These exception lists are not full supervision rosters. Lost contact, a pending warrant, and discharge are three different conditions. Date every status statement and confirm it with Parole Division or the court department.
Boyd Release and Reentry Planning
William R. Boyd Unit's official program list includes CHANGES/Pre-Release and Reentry Planning. That is a real Freestone County reentry layer for eligible state prisoners. Program participation can help prepare for release, yet it does not prove that a Board vote occurred or that a date is final.
Release processing may still require a certificate, a Classification and Records audit, completion of a required program, and approval of a residence plan. The TDCJ Independent Ombudsman notes that cases vary. Verify the actual release in TDCJ status history. The county jail follows a different record path through the Sheriff and the court.
For the underlying custody event and release entry, use the Freestone County released inmate search and record routes. That record can distinguish bond, time served, court order, transfer, or another disposition.
When Freestone Supervision Ends
Parole ends through a formal discharge or other lawful termination, not merely because a person has stopped appearing in a current locator. TDCJ IVSS can expose actual release and discharge events for state cases. A sentence discharge normally means no continuing parole term, but the displayed record must be read in context.
Probation ends through the court record. Obtain the final order or docket entry from the correct clerk. A revocation, early termination, successful completion, and transfer of supervision are not interchangeable. The signed order is stronger than a verbal account.
Texas Government Code Chapter 508 governs parole and mandatory supervision. Code of Criminal Procedure Chapter 42A governs community supervision. Records may be limited by expunction, nondisclosure, juvenile confidentiality, or other law. A missing public entry alone is never proof that supervision ended.
When the public result is unclear, request the specific record instead of asking an agency to research the whole history. For TDCJ, identify the person by name, TDCJ number or SID, and birth date. For probation, give the clerk the cause number and court. For a local jail release, give the Sheriff the booking number and custody dates. These records answer different questions and should be kept separate.
Texas IVSS-Counties replaced legacy VINE county notifications in 2025. It may report a booking, release, court change, death, escape, or transfer to TDCJ where a county participates. A notification is useful context, but it does not replace the supervision order or prove that parole or probation ended. TDCJ's separate IVSS remains the correct state-custody and parole notification system.
